Help For Adding Photos

last edited 3 years ago by hauanm

Remember:  you cannot add any content, including photos, unless you are a member and have logged in!

On the dSpin website, you can add photos to your news items, event notices, web pages, and discussion messages.  You can store photos in "My Stuff" and let people know where they are (in email or discussion messages).  You can even create whole photo albums.

The basic steps to add a photo are simple.

Step 1 -- prepare your photo.
If you took the photo with a multi-mega-pixel camera (you lucky dog!), use the photo manipulation software that most likely came with your camera, to reduce the size of the photo file.  You may have done something like this when sending emails with photos to people who have restrictions on the size of attachments to the emails they receive.  A good size is something less than 200K.

Step 2 -- add your photo.

There are 3 basic ways to do this:

A. To add a photo to "My Stuff", click on the "add new item" tab in the menu bar above and select "photo".  You will see a screen that asks you to provide a Title for your photo, a Description of the photo, and to select the photo File on your computer to upload to the website.  Once you've provided the information and selected your photo file, click the "save" button to upload the file.

B. To add a photo inside a page or a message (embed it in text), click on the "insert image" icon in editing bar at the top of the page or message you are editing.  A simple dialog box will appear asking for you to "Enter Image URL".  (THIS NEEDS FIXING -- IT SHOULD BE A BROWSE FUNCTION TO FIND THE PHOTO FILE).

C. To attach a photo to a page or message (not embedded in the text) use the "upload file or image" field below the text editing window to type in the file name, or click the "Browse" button to select the photo file you've prepared on your computer. Finally, click "save".

Step 3 -- Let other people know where your photo is.
Note the URL (Uniform Resource Locator -- which is the "address" of the photo) that appears when you look at the photo in "My Stuff".  Copy it into emails or messages to those you want to see it.
